When you see ants in your home, you may be tempted to grab a can of pesticide and kill those you see. That won't solve the problem though, and may even cause the ants to split up their colonies and make the problem worse. Use a homemade solution that gets poison where it's important targeting the main colony and, hopefully, the queen.
What you will need
Mix one teaspoon of boric acid with 1/3 cup of apple-mint jelly.
Place some dab of the mixture on small pieces of cardboard and place the bait where you have seen ant activity. Place three what dab concerns in about every 25 square feet of space. Make sure your pets and children cannot get at the mixture, as it is toxic. The ants will be attracted to the mixture and will take traces of the poison back to the colony.
Check the bait every few days and apply more bait or Add a few drops of water to dried out bait.
Try to determine entry points for your home and caulk or seal them. Even the tiniest crack can serve as an entry point for ants.
The ant population in your home can quickly rise to become a nuisance, but they are also capable of causing much more than just an annoyance. Some species may even cause damage to your property.
Getting rid of ants, termites and other pests once an infestation is in full swing will require the expertise of a professional to deal with the problem. Gold Coast residents can contact us for a free assesment and quote.
